AdventureQuest: Analysis of 9/17/09 Release

Posted by alabamapitty on September 29, 2009

Yarrgghh! Be grabbin’ yer floggin’ stick and push off me hardies! Today (Er.. the 19th) be the wonderful occasion of Talk Like a Pirate Day!

But.. Why is the Rum Gone? (Talk Like a Pirate Day ’09!)

About

So, a year has passed since the attack of Blackwhisker the PieRat and his B.U.R.P. forces, and we’ve once again made it back to TLaPD. What new threat faces us? Hehe, the attack of Captain Munch.

It’s a beautiful day in Lolosia. The sun is shining, the waves are gentle, and it’s perfect for sailing a ship. Suddenly, a huge monstrosity rises from the deep! This lizard creature, sporting the garb of a pirate captain and a beautiful trident is huge.. In comparison to the toy boat he destroyed. But, non-menacing attack on a small child’s boat or not, Captain Much means business! He’s brought his entire crew of lizard creatures with him, to destroy land dwellers and prove that mammals are weak!

Rumor has it that greedy Captain Munch opened a cursed treasure chest one day despite many warnings, and found himself irradiated by an alien device that turned him into a huge lizard hybrid!

The description says it all. Captain Munch is one tough cookie, and you have to fight into the briny deep to find and defeat him. However, the rewards (A copy of his very nice-looking trident) are well worth the effort.

Pros

This year’s TLaPD was very well done. Of course, people were able to get rares from previous years, since the rares from TLaPD are seasonal (Unless you head to Warlic’s and mix some potions, in which case some of them are available year round). It’s good to see the battles with Blackwhisker back, as well as the ability to shoot our favorite Trobble Floyd high into the air.

The artwork on Captain Much and his weapon are very nice indeed, and the description of this new foe ties him into the main storyline as well. Hmm.. Alien device eh? Anyone think the Network needs to stop leaving its toys lying around?

As always, TLaPD is a lot of fun for everyone, and the Rangers out there who’ve been needing a new water Uber are no doubt very pleased.

Cons

The weapons have a few issues. I am perfectly fine with them being Ranged, as Rangers are in need of weapons in general. However, all of them have an effect in place that makes all damage they do 85% less than what is listed. This is the sacrifice made for an increase in weapon accuracy. It may be a bit of overkill, but it is understandable considering weapon standards these days. You’ve got a weapon that is hard-pressed to miss: Awesome!

Final Grade f Release

This week’s TLaPD release was very good, I must admit. Captain Crun- I mean Munch, was a very nice enemy. The weapons are beautiful and well-animated. I’m pleased to give this release 7.5 Gamma Irradiated Lizard Men, out of 10.

They have higher then average accuracy and as a result the damage is lower.

I think they might’ve gone a bit overboard with the damage reduction, but I’m no expert on weapon standards obviously. :p

  2. Ohh! My look at info submission didn’t yield that little tidbit! I’ll edit it in right now. As always Seriyu, you’re an amazing reader. Thanks! 🙂
