January 1 has come, and with it the Christmasy theme and falling snow have left. The standard Andreas09 theme, complete with its widescreen, cleaner layout and two-column sidebar, makes it's triumphant return.

Analysis of 8/20/08 Update

Posted by The Peanut Master on August 23, 2008

NOTE: I am terribly sorry for getting this analysis post up a few days late, although I have been very busy in real life getting ready for school and doing a bunch of other things. 😦

As was expected, stats have finally made their way into the game, in the forms of Power, Luck, Perception, Reflex, Accuracy, and Efficiency. Read on for more about the stats and my opinion of the release.

About: Wednesday’s release was one of the biggest and most important releases in MechQuest history: Stats. All good MMORPG and RPG games have to have stats, and this was the release that accelerated MechQuest from Gamma to Omega, and into Build 1.0.0. Yes, it was a pretty huge release. I won’t go into much detail on the stats themselves, but there were six in total, all serving different purposes: Perception, Accuracy, Efficiency, Luck, Reflex, and Power. The stat training comes in the form of a GEARS University class, Mecha Piloting 101. You can train up to 150 stat points (for level 25 Star Captains), and each level up gives 5 stats point (6 for Star Captains. When you train, you can choose six points to allocate your stats, and then you fight a trainer. Once you beat it, those six stat points will come into effect. There are no payments necessary, and you even gain experience/credits from the trainers.

My Opinion: It’s hard to botch an update like this, and I think AE did a fantastic job with stats. They got one thing definitely right: Not forcing us to pay to have to gain stat points. I really don’t think you should have to pay for stats, and I was extremely pleased to see that that was not the case here. The six categories were all created nicely and provide something for everyone. I would have liked to see formulas so we know exactly what we are getting, but it’s not a huge deal and as long as we know what each stats does, I’m content. I also don’t have any problems with how many points you get, as it seems to work just fine. Same goes with the actual process. It shouldn’t be a huge deal to train your stat points, but it should be necessary and it should make an impact whilst battling, and that appears to be the case.

Overall Grade of Update: 9.5/10. Nothing really went wrong with the update, although the missing formulas and specific/detailed information forced a slight deduction. Other than that, this was a huge update that AE got right, so well done! 🙂

Power in my opinion is the ultimate stat for mystraven.
