January 1 has come, and with it the Christmasy theme and falling snow have left. The standard Andreas09 theme, complete with its widescreen, cleaner layout and two-column sidebar, makes it's triumphant return.

Analysis of 5/23/08 Update

Posted by The Peanut Master on May 24, 2008

Another late-week release saw two more updates to the game, one a Tweak Week update and one a weapons update. Read on for more.

About: On Thursday, the Battle Button received a major reworking, and now scales much more detailed and much more accurately to a person’s skill. On Friday, eight new satellite weapons were added to the Special Items Shop and Special Nova Items Shop, five of which are for credits (two free and three Star Captain-only) and three of which are for Nova Gems-only. They come in three different level variations (3, 13, and 17) and three different designs. The weapons are only available until Tuesday, and will become very highly rare when they go away.

My Opinion: The Battle Button scaling problem was something that needed attending to, since it was becoming a major problem for lower level players (having to fight enemies too high for their level) and for higher level players as well (the button only scaled to level ten). Now that it’s been adjusted, the button scales much better for all levels, so while it’s not necessarily a big update (the Battle Button never really has been a popular source for farming among the general population). The weapons are really a work of art, and they really were drawn fantastically and the animations are some of the best in the game. The actual damages of the weapons are respectable and well-balanced for their levels, and while they do not outclass any of the top weapons already out, for players without the “ubers” some of the weapons will make nice additions to their inventory.

Summary of Enemy Monsters: There were no new enemies released in this update.

Possible Farming Strategies: None really. The Battle Button is still inferior to the Moon Missions, Labyrinth, and others even with the scaling change.

Rewards: I guess you could the new items rewards, although there wasn’t anything in particular that we did to make these “rewards”.

Overall Grade of Update: 9.0/10. The Battle Button rescaling was nice and while it wasn’t big, it was still important and needed to be addressed, and the new weapons are awesome in every way imaginable. There was nothing too over-the-top, which keeps me from giving this grade a truly superior score, but for a late-week update it was good enough for me.

Enjoy! Feel free to post your comments on this analysis and the update itself!

I haven’t fought one yet, but there actually is a new enemy this week though it is Battle Button only–a SS mecha named Diptera.

Yes, I had heard about that from the BoF, although it was after I made this post and I didn’t feel it was big or important enough to add it in.
