The Gryphon: Dragonfable’s Real Worst Enemy?

The Gryphon in DF has completely ruined what I’d consider to be a major factor in Dragonfable’s diversity from the other games.

And, as you may have guessed, that diversity is exploration. While I’m not trying to insult MQ, it doesn’t look like it is taking advantage of the walkaround system as much as DF was. Looking at early areas in the game, you can see the traces of exploration. You can actually walk to many old areas. Ever since the Gryphon came along, Dragonfable is losing one of the things that made it Dragonfable. While it has been used in quests, now it seems nearly EVERY major area is reached via the Gryphon. Which also means having a hometown other than Falconreach is obsolete. It would be nice to see transition quests like the ones from Oaklore to Falconreach. Perhaps the first time you go to an area you have to do a mini-quest, and THEN you can use the Gryphon. I suggest highly that you read this. It is an interesting suggestion that has my complete support. As Zamuel has said, “It’s time for fried Gryphon and waffles!”

  1. I completely agree, and it’s too bad MechQuest seems to be taking the same path in the form of starships. AE would do well to incorporate a system such as the one you linked to, as it would greatly enhance the playability of the game.

Too true. The Gryphon is a bastion of laziness, killing the collective spirit of all that is exploration. I hope that Cysero realizes the flaw in this system before it spreads even further and kills any hope of exploration. Still, Dragesvard is a good start, large, sprawling, and fun to look around, so who knows? Things may change in the future! ;-)

MQ can get away with less on foot exploration purely due to the fact that we are travelling between planets instead of doing a lot of exploration on the same planet. Rolith has made an interesting (yet disheartening) point that exploration and other features require a certain amount a time and manpower that isn’t always available when pushing towards the next release.

LOL, epic win for referencing Robina’s Gryphon & Waffles.
