Opinion of MechQuest’s Plot Development (Westion I)

There has been a vested interest into MechQuest’s plot development recently, and I’ve decided to give my opinion on the way MechQuest’s plot is developing and the job AE is doing on it.The plot of MechQuest really got interesting back during the Soluna City storyline, when the plot heated up on the moon: Kingadent Slugwrath turned out to be working for the ShadowScythe and the mysterious rebels were actually the missing Soluna Defense Forces. These huge plots twists, while anticipated by many, opened up a lot of people’s eyes as to the complexity and depth of MechQuest’s growing plot, and at such an early stage in the game’s development, such a fantastic storyline in only the first zone foreshadowed great things to come.
So where did the plot turn to next? Westion, of course. If you read my analysis post of the opening of Westion, you would know I thought the introduction to Westion and its plot was captivating and interesting, with the side-plot of the animosity between Alamonia and Khaeldron setting up an interesting deviation from the ShadowScythe, one that we all knew would somehow relate back to the main plotline. Unfortunately, I’d have to say the side-plot between Alamonia and Khaeldron has not developed as much as I’d have liked to see, as we only got confirmation of their disliking with the train stoppage quest and general dialogues between both sides. We still don’t know anything about why there is trouble brewing, how it’s been happening, and who are the driving forces behind it all (the missing ambassadors have been left hanging…).
Still, we have had excellent side-side plots on Westion, such as Alamonia’s Sheriff’s Office (with a fantastic plot twist when the main character is actually turned out to be evil) and the Khaeldron Research Labs, with one of the most entertaining quests currently in the game. The latest release, the Alamonia Town Hall, is too early to tell whether it will relate to the ShadowScythe, Alamonia-Khaeldron or something else, but it will definitely be interesting to watch.
While the Alamonia-Khaeldron plot may be lacking in plot development past the initial setup, the relation between Westion and the ShadowScythe sure hasn’t. We knew from the beginning Westion would somehow relate back to the ShadowScythe, but we didn’t know how and we didn’t know when. Well, we know both now. The latest war on Khaeldron has revealed a multitude of information on the relationship, and while I won’t go into detail on it here, I will say this: The information revealed was very well thought-out and logical, and I think the way it was laid out in the format of a war was the best way to go about it. Not to mention the fact that the plot has really become interesting and attractive, and the cliff hanger at the end (with Lord Valoth deciding to send in emergency reinforcements), makes you want to see the continuation so, so bad. The ending of the Westion-ShadowScythe storyline took a huge step forward with the war, and I personally can’t wait for the conclusion.
All in all, so far, Westion has done a fantastic job with the Westion-ShadowScythe plot and Westion side-side plot(s), and while the Alamonia-Khaeldron side plot could definitely have developed further, I am definitely leaving the door open for either the Mayor’s Office (and J6) or a future release to advance this laggard into its counterparts’ territories.
Stay tuned for when Westion wraps up, when I will post a conclusion to this post, only with Westion’s ending as the main content. Thanks for reading, and feel free to give your opinion on the plot of Westion (and MechQuest in general) in the Comments section below (or feedback to mine).

I hope nobody else turns on us though. They’ve done it twice, I think they need to stop the betrayals for a while.
