The Friday update this week brought upgraded Kurosawa mecha models, and read on to find out why I think this is without a doubt the best Friday release in MechQuest history.
About: The Friday release saw the new, higher level Kurosawa mechs introduced to the game at levels 5, 13, 17, and 21. They all have decreased base stats, although with undeniably awesome special effects. The head weapon, which does 0 damage, when activated will give +80 block and +40 attack for two turns. When your hitpoints reaches very low damage your next attack will use up your remaining energy to deal double damage. Some of the weapons also have chances to do extra damage as well.
My Opinion: This Friday update is in my mind the best Friday update in MechQuest history, and it isn’t even close. The new mechs really do add a whole DragonFable-ish strategic aspect to MechQuest with the Kurosawa’s special abilities (especially the head), and an update like this opens up so many more strategic implementations that could be introduced into MechQuest. It was slightly disheartening to see the Friday release reward (once again) Nova Gem players, but it’s definitely outweighed by the step AE took with these mechs. The Kurosawa has always been one of the best-looking mechs in MechQuest, and I’m glad to see Kurosawa get the upgrades. The new models were beautifully balanced and it makes me so excited to see what other mechs will get upgrades.
Overall Grade of Update: 9.5/10. For a Friday update, especially following a huge Wednesday release, AE did a magnificent job, and if it wasn’t for their continuous Nova Gem favoring, this would have gotten a perfect score. Alas, it didn’t, but it got pretty darn close, and the new mechs are nothing short of fantastic. Well done, AE!

AE have already said that this is just the first of many revamped mecha so I wouldn’t worry too much about it being Nova only (Kurosawa was the first Nova mech so they have said they want to keep it just Nova). Hopefully we’ll see revamped mecha for all the jobs in Soluna over the next couple months
Oh small question – what are your feelings about them making a few models of the Equinox permanent? I personally was a bit disappointed, the War on Westion wasn’t well thought out in the first place but the good rewards at the end made up for that a bit. I really don’t see why they felt the need to make the Equinox no longer rare (non-SC players don’t get a non rare version but the NG 18 is now non rare and they added a 20 SC version as non rare too).
If they really wanted to give more players a chance to own an Equinox I feel a much better way to have done it would be to have a second War on Westion at some point.
Well, I think that if AE was going to make some war rewards not rare, they should have made them all not rare, although besides that I was happy that a very powerful mecha became available to everyone. We were getting dangerously close to almost no powerful non-rare mechs (house mechs being the only real exception), so to make the Equinox available definitely helps that out.
I’m just thinking AE probably could have done this a better way…
Considering AE’s games are one player and you don’t have an option to trade, rares don’t interest me for the sake of being rare and sometimes the concept annoys me. I personally boycotted the Fourth of July mecha for this reason.
Concerning the main topic, the strategic options of the new Kurosawa have made it my favorite mecha by far. I can’t wait to see what else comes out of the revival project.
I’m sure the Kurosawa would be my favorite as well if I bought it.
